Winnipeg: Locksmith/Handyperson - Broadway Construction

Broadway Constructions is looking for a dedicated & reliable Locksmith/Handyperson to join our growing team who will be responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of various locking mechanisms and security systems, while also performing general maintenance tasks such as minor carpentry repairs. This position will adhere to company policies and standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety, and complete and on-time delivery. Unlike new construction, this role focuses on the lifecycle of occupied buildings—performing rapid repairs for tenants, conducting preventative maintenance, and managing electrical turnovers for new move-ins. The successful candidate will ensure all multi-family dwellings and apartments remain safe, functional, and compliant with the cities of Winnipeg & Selkirk.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Locksmithing: Install, repair, and rekey mechanical and electronic locks; create master key systems; and perform emergency lockout services for residential apartment buildings.
  • Hardware Installation: Mount and maintain door hardware, including panic bars, closures, hinges, and peepholes.
  • General Maintenance: Execute minor repairs to residential apartment buildings. Perform routine tasks like drywall repair, Kitchen & bathroom hardware installation and caulking. Demo work & hauling for pre-repair.
  • Security Assessments: Identify vulnerabilities in existing security systems and recommend hardware upgrades.
  • Administrative Tasks: Maintain accurate records of keying systems, inventory, and completed work orders using company software.
  • Ensure high standards of workmanship and efficiency
  • Adhere to established safe working procedures and wear the proper safety equipment at all times
  • Adhere to company policies and standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety, and complete and on-time delivery
  • Ensure accurate and timely project close date; help supervisors to adjust working schedules to ensure deadlines are met
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on all equipment and tools
  • Maintain a clean working area free from dirt and debris between tasks and at end of the day

Job Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: 3+ years in locksmithing or a related maintenance trade. Must be able to use a Key cutting machine.   Level 2 Asbestos training & experience preferred.
  • Certification: While voluntary in Manitoba, completion of a Certified Locksmith training course or apprenticeship is highly preferred.
  • Communication: High-level customer service skills for interacting with tenants in their homes. Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with tenants, supervisors, and property managers.
  • Tools & Transport: Must possess a basic set of hand tools and a valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean drivers abstract (a company service vehicle will be provided for work purposes only).
    -Must have CSA approved steel toe work shoes
  • Clearance: Must provide a clear Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector) as work involves entering private residences.
  • Ability to respond quickly in a dynamic and changing environment
  • Ability to lift heavy objects 25-50 lbs, walk, and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to work individually as well as part of a team
  • Must be available to work Monday to Friday 8 am to 4:30 pm
