Bordered to the north by the Assiniboine River, there’s no end to the beautiful trails and parks in the area – take a walk along the river, and you might forget you’re in the city altogether! The flora and fauna in the area make Charleswood an idyllic place for nature lovers. Birdwatchers will enjoy seeing the wide variety of birds who live along the river, and there are plenty of deer to be spotted, too.

The area is perfect for folks who enjoy a night out on the town, as well. There are great restaurants in the area, like Taverna Rodos, which has an eclectic, Greek-inspired menu. And the Capital Grill and Bar is just a short ways away down Roblin, featuring great food and even better cocktails. We recommend hitting it up after taking a stroll around Assiniboine Park – or Tom Chester Park, for another enjoyable place for a stroll.

Getting around

Want to go downtown or throughout the rest of the city? Charleswood, despite being the city’s westmost suburb, is well served by public transportation. You can catch the Express 65 or 67 bus to get downtown in no time flat. Charleswood is near many of Winnipeg’s major thoroughfares, including Route 90 and Portage Avenue. The Perimeter Highway is nearby too, offering a quick route to other suburbs, and fast access to other beautiful spaces Manitoba has to offer.

A great place to raise a family

If you’ve got kids, you’d be hard pressed to find a better place to live than Charleswood. With its low rate of crime and expansive outdoor spaces, it’s a great place for a child to grow up. There are excellent schools in the area, too, including French immersion schools, and a number of high schools. Westwood Collegiate, École Dieppe, and more serve the area. Plus, when your kids want to go to the Zoo, it’s only a short drive away!

In terms of convenience, Charleswood is an excellent place to live. There are a number of different grocery stores, convenience stores, and pharmacies in the area. Doctors, dentists, salons, hairdressers – Charleswood has got it all. Before it joined Winnipeg, Charleswood was its own town, so it’s no surprise to find everything you could need concentrated in this one neighbourhood. “The Suburb Beautiful” indeed!
